A lot of people wonder if the Pre-Paid Legal membership works and if it is worth paying a monthly membership. I get these questions all the time. Some people have even gone as far as to try and tell me that it doesn't work, based on what they heard someone say about the membership. Well for the record, let me tell you that it does in fact work. I used it numerous times and it works great. I have never paid for anything other than my regular monthly membership.
Whenever I am given an objection to the membership, I ask why they thought it it didn't work for them. I am usually told a story where the member wanted the attorney to do something that wasn't legal or ethical. Remember attorneys have to abide by the law too. Whenever I asked them, I found out the main reason they didn't like the service was because they were cited for DUI and the membership only covers that in the 25% disount area. It is NOT a part of the motor-vehicle coverage. Depite what the media shows on TV, attorneys cannot wave a magic wand and make people's legal problems go away. They give advice on the best way for their client to deal with the situation. I tell them I am NOT an attorney, and they need to talk to one either though us or through their own research. Then there are always those last-minute folks that have to go to court in the next day or two and need legal help. Believe it or not, I have even received calls from folks already locked up seeking a Pre-Paid Legal attorney. We don't operate like that. I was starting to get so many calls, I called the law firm to see if anything had changed. Having a Pre-Paid Legal membership is NOT a get out of jail free card and it is not Legal Aid. The key is seeking assistance IN ADVANCE for everyday issues.
We are changing the perception of utilizing attorneys, whether using a Pre-Paid attorney, a referral attorney, or using an attorney of your own. The point is to get legal advice on an ongoing basis so everyone can make wise legal decisions during the course of our everyday lives and if something happens to come up, we can squash it and keep on moving.
We are changing the status quo of our friends and loved ones waiting until the absolute last-minute to get our legal matters taken care of and by that time, it is a full-blown crisis.
Most of us have a story about someone in our family passed away without a will and the drama that came right after the funeral. (I was told many stories and I have a couple of my own.)
I know what you're thinking. Who wants to talk about death? Why drop $300-$500 on a will when we didn't have anything left anyway? I used to think the same thing. We even made a joke about it to make us feel better. We sung: "Dad left nothing but a loan." or put "I'm spending my children's inheritance" on the back of our cars. I read those bumper stickers too. I bought the concept too because I was broke (mentally). Even after I started making more money and found that I didn't qualify for a lot of the programs that are designed for those in a lower-income bracket, I still had the same mindset. But aren't we supposed to pass something down to the next generation? ***It's not all about us.***
Then there is a question about the business opportunity. Yes there is money in Pre-Paid Legal. Why is it a good business opportunity? Well, for one thing, the product is very affordable. People eat out all the time these days. A lunch may cost $8-$10. Dinner can be twice that much. That investment lasts you 3-4 hours and a burp then that investment is done and you'll do the same thing again at least once or twice that week. Some folks even eat out for breakfast and never cook at home anymore Wow, that gets expensive. It is not so much about what you make, but what you spend it on and how much of it you hold on to.
Plus, you don't have to stock products in your house or garage, you don't have to keep up with any points, and you and your family can benefit from the product today and tomorrow. I support a lot of my friends in their own businesses. I have seen it all (well, the legal stuff anyway). One thing I have found out, no matter how good the gadget or widgit is, if I am in a spot and need some help, that gadget or widgit cannot help me but my Pre-Paid Legal membership can. I cannot run to my daddy for help. He had passed away many years now. I don't want to share all my legal questions and/or mistakes with everyone in my family either. I have peace of mind knowing I can pick up the phone and ask any legal question I want without wondering about getting a big bill in the mail. That is why I signed up in the first place and I love it. I called them a few days ago and a few minutes later I hung up the phone with the answers I needed.
There are many business owners that are looking at Pre-Paid Legal as a Plan B to supplement their career. We have more professionals looking at our business than ever before. Even some of the attorneys are asking me about how they can become referral attorneys. (I called the SC law firm beause I didn't know. The Pre-Paid Legal website has instructions for prospective referral attorneys.) You don't even have to do Pre-Paid Legal for the rest of your life. It can be a stepping stone by providing immediate cash flow to help you start up your own business and get legal consultation along the way. What a concept!
Yes, like any cash-generating business, we can attract the greedy as well as the needy and but the corporate office does a fantastic job of sifting out those who do bad business practices. Those same people will take their sour grapes and go on the internet and state why the company doesn't work. These people can be found in any business. You know them, on our jobs, we call them disgruntled employees. The usual crabs in a barrell that seem to be always unhappy. Everytime I run into one of those people, they cannot give me a valid reason why they didn't like the company or the membership. The overwhelming majority of PPL associates have a passion for empowering our communities with proactive legal protection and identity theft protection. Just in any business, it takes vision and self-confidence to do well in Pre-Paid Legal. No matter how great our compensation plan is and no matter how well we encourage you in doing well, you have to believe that you can do the business.
